Who are we?
The Brant Woodlot Owners Association is a member of the Ontario Woodlot Association
We are a group of Brant County and Brantford men and women who are passionate about trees and wood. We have a lot of shared knowledge and experience of species, harvesting, habitats, and of environmental issues related to trees.
What are our activities?
We have four woodlot events per year, mostly in Brant County. These woodlot events are tours of public and private woodlots and give members and guests a chance to observe trees growing in their natural environment and to talk about tree species and how they grow. Some of our tours allow us to observe pre and post harvest situations.
We have an annual meeting each winter with election of officers and guest speakers.
As members of the Ontario Woodlot Association we are also able to attend the OWA annual meeting and conference, which is a great place to meet fellow tree enthusiasts and learn with them. Members receive four newsletters per year from the Brant Woodlot Association and as well as the highly informative S and W quarterly magazine from the Ontario Woodlot Association.
Where are we?
We are located in the County of Brant, just west of Hamilton. Brant County is in the Carolinian life zone and is primarily in the Grand River watershed. Our woodlots are characteristic of the Great Lakes / St. Lawrence zone, with a significant inventory of trees of the Carolinian zone including oaks, hickory, sycamore, American chestnut, and sassafras.
