Forest Climate Resilience:

A Practical Course for Practitioners and Landowners

Climate change is happening now with some of us already experiencing the impacts, but we are adapting together.

We are all facing uncertainties as forests and ecosystems change due to climate change. In the face of these challenges, we have developed an instructional course focused on assessing and adapting the management of woodlots to projected climate change impacts.

This course, Forest Climate Resilience: A Practical Course for Practitioners and Landowners, will introduce you to concepts, tools and current data from Ontario to help you take greater action on climate change in your own backyard. Along the way you'll meet others who are also doing their part.

At the end of the course, participants have tangible adaptation strategies that are unique to the forests they steward.

From genetics and diversity to restoration and forest productivity, participants expand their vocabulary which helps us understand the solutions. There will also be opportunities to test your understanding of the material in a self-paced workbook. Build your own library of climate resources to refer to later with recommended and supplementary readings.[/ez-toggle]

[ez-toggle title="Learn about the opportunities and challenges"]Uncertainty can be an uncomfortable feeling when it comes to what the future holds for our ecosystems, but it should not just be viewed negatively. There are both opportunities and challenges that landowners and practitioners will face as we look to mitigate the effects of climate change together.[/ez-toggle]

[ez-toggle title="Understand climate adaptation"]Understand the expected climatic effects in Ontario such as affects on species and forest ecosystems so you can prepare and adapt. Learn climate adaptation frameworks, tools and techniques, and how to use them. Apply these tools to your own project or site.[/ez-toggle]

[ez-toggle title="Connect with others"]Meet other woodlot owners and practitioners. Participants will also learn from expert guest speakers and a knowledgeable instructor with a background in forestry and teaching. Ask questions and share ideas with the instructor and other participants during live sessions and in the discussion board.[/ez-toggle]
