We will start off with a short presentation by Ted Taylor on matching trees to site conditions based on work dating back to the 1980s with the Ontario Institute of Pedology/University of Guelph. This work informed the Establishing Tree Cover book within the award winning BMP series.
Ted Taylor, as a Forest Soil Specialist 1980s, was responsible for the development of soil interpretations for forestry in Southern Ontario and for training forest staff to identify soil features related to tree species performance.
Following that, he worked with OMAFRA in the areas of technology transfer related to soil health and environmental sustainability, and this included the development of the Best Management Practice publication series.
Since retiring from OMAFRA in 2019, Ted continues to work in agricultural soil health and forest soils.
