Foulds and McLean Tracts Tour
On Saturday, June 1, 2024 join Brant County Forester Trent Myers and the Brant Woodlot Owners Association for a tour of the Foulds and McLean Tracts near Glen Morris. This tour will highlight good forestry practices that lead to thriving woodlots. This will be an informative tour for woodlot owners wanting to improve their stands through good forestry practice.
The Foulds Tract is a GRCA property with mature species including white and red oak, sugar maple, pignut hickory, and basswood. At this stop GRCA Watersheds Forester Dan Marina will be our guide. This woodlot is also home to sassafras and has remainders of American chestnut.
The McLean Tract is a County of Brant property with upland and lowland forest. Portions were previously reforested with Norway spruce and red pine. The spruce and red pine need to be harvested and Trent will explain how the forest will be marked to maximize natural regeneration.
The County is providing a bus for the tour. Participants will meet at the St. George Arena parking lot. Coffee will be available at 8:45 a.m. and the bus will leave at 9:15 a.m. Return to the arena will be at about 12:15 p.m.
As seating on the bus is limited to 46 passengers, registration is required. Please call or text Neil Dunning at 519-865-7191 or email to neil@northpine.ca to register. There is no charge for the day and membership in the Brant Woodlot Owners Association is not required. A $5.00 donation toward the Brant Tree Coalition fund is suggested.
