Reaping What We Sow: Black Ash Preservation Through Seed Collection
Organized by: Invasive Species Centre
Presented by: Vincent La Tassa, Program Development Coordinator Invasive Species Centre
Black ash (Fraxinus nigra) is a native hardwood tree now classified as endangered in Ontario under the Endangered Species Act, primarily due to projected population declines caused by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) over the next century. With support from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Invasive Species Centre has launched a new initiative to help safeguard black ash genetics by educating, empowering, and training volunteers across the province to assist with seed collection for long-term preservation. Join us to learn more about this initiative and how you can take part in ensuring the survival of this important species for future generations.
