Silviculture is both an art and a science and in Muskoka forestry staff at Westwind Forest Stewardship, alongside the MNR, are responsible for identifying values and objectives for Crown Land forests and implementing the silviculture to work towards meeting those objectives while protecting and promoting those values on Crown Land.

This webinar will outline the silviculture systems in use in Muskoka’s hardwood forest. We will learn about the computer modelling, long-term planning, technical field work and data analysis that is completed in order to determine which silviculture system to use for a specific forest compartment and how the silviculture prescription works to move that forest along towards a desired future forest condition.

With this foundation in the silviculture of forestry we will discuss the threat of Beech Bark Disease and the adaptive silviculture being implemented by Westwind to deal with this invasive species.

Presenter: Javier Cappella R.P.F., Forester at Westwind Forest Stewardship Inc.

The link to access this webinar will be shared 1-2 days prior to the presentation.
