Huronia Chapter: Fall Field Day

Each Fall, members gather for a field day at one of our member's properties. Tours, hikes or wagon rides offer the opportunity to see how the property is managed and what plans may be underway. Please contact one of the directors if you like to host this event in future.

Ruth Henderson and Stephen Hartley will host the 2026 Fall Field Day at their 100 acre property in Tay Township. They will lead two guided walks to share their experiences and management plans. The woodlot is a mix of planted conifer, wet conifer swamp, mixed hardwoods and streams in ravines.

There will also be a demonstration about bio-char led by Elliott Groen of the Ontario Woodlot Association (OWA). This is a newer method that is gaining popularity amongst woodlot managers as brush and limbs too small for firewood can be converted to "black gold" as charcoal fertilizer.

Elliott will also discuss the new OWA education program called Master Forest Stewards. 

Lunch will be provided! Please remember to bring a chair.
